This is a large imposing portrait of an emu. The emu takes up the whole canvas and is designed to make for slightly uncomfortable viewing, mirroring the animals character, which is aggressive in the wild.

I love painting birds, I was first drawn to emus as their upright leggy stature resembles humans and that amused me. They are a fascinating bird, with strange plumage and colouring - and I enjoyed the subtle nod towards anthropomorphism.

  • Medium: acrylic paint on canvas
